Re: Does anyone run Daf XF? I’m looking to change the fleet from Mercedes Actros to DAF

I run a fleet of mainly DAF’s.
Only issue I have with the new ones is there seems to be a common issue with the AEBS system. I’ve new looms and ECU’s but problem still persists. Reliability wise though they are pretty good and comfortable.

Re: Can a company make a driver pay for damages to the truck?

£250k truck? What the hell was you buying? There is a difference between what I think was asked and accidentally damaged as that was intentional! we transport day old chicks so the truck has to have some fancy bits of kit on it. It’s still a driver damaging truck. The point is even after that we co...

Re: Can a company make a driver pay for damages to the truck?

In my experience no.
I had a driver take a drill and fit some “brackets” to a brand new £250K truck last year. We legally wasn’t allowed to make him pay for it.

I’ve seen Iveco now produce a 7 ton van. It would still need to be under licence but might help you out somehow with maintenance costs, etc.

What is everyone doing to attract new drivers ? I rarely have to employ new drivers as our retention rate is very good. I’ve put an ad up and we are a reasonable company to work for, I’m just getting no one apply for the position.

depends who you answer to and where you are on the management ladder, I empowered supervisors to the job daily but advise owner of major issues then the owner phoned me anyway . In the end I just stayed in touch daily with the supervisors. I am responsible for all transport. I think because of the ...

16 years of this , taking calls middle of the night in Australia to on the Beach in Cyprus. Actual real holidays didn’t exist. The only time I didn’t get calls was when I was in a coma for 3 months . Running transport a business isn’t always easy. this is the Norm for me. I decided this week howeve...

Re: So I had a week off (Internal TM) and this is the first week where I did not have my work phone glued to my hand.

If you feel that uncomfortable leave , or maybe ask for a hug , or put it on Facebook on the worst page for advice going ? My experience of transport is it never stops and neither do the headaches . there’s a few decent people on here, just need to know who to ignore and who is actually trying to b...

doesn't take twenty four hours to get to Ireland not even the half of that so plenty Time to sort out replacement truck if truck assessment says it can't be fixed. you will struggle to find the sort of trucks we operate. It takes 8 months to build our trucks. They need to maintain 26 degrees and ha...

Only a break down mate, are you over thinking it or what? Well I hope that baby won't break down and the chicks will be ecstatic lol, I remember doing the CPC and the tutor was banging on about when to give water to livestock, I switched off mate we deal with livestock so a breakdown can be a stres...

Re: So I had a week off (Internal TM) and this is the first week where I did not have my work phone glued to my hand.

Short answer, yes I have, and in the end i walked, every time. Life is too short. There is a lot of this in our industry (and probably many others). Particularly in family sized companies that have outgrown themselves but don't really know how to, so everyone has just become so part of the furnitur...

The company he drives for has paid for him to attend a CPC course but are not paying him for the day spent there

I’m curious on a situation of a friend. The company he drives for has paid for him to attend a CPC course but are not paying him for the day spent there. Is this right ? I was under the impression if it is organised by the company then the driver must be paid for his time ? Does anyone have a link t...
