so would you get them PMI’s? As you don’t have JCB’s inspected I think it would be wise to have them PMI'd. However since there is no licence requirement, you operate them as you would a 'Grey Fleet'. So, if you already have a licence for other vehicles, the TC / DVSA would expect you to act respon...

I never had an issue and I had to travel some lengthy distances in rural Scotland. However, whenever I was ETM to more than one operator, I had to show a table with distances and travel time to and from home to the OC and between each OC's. They will look at the work time and travel time, and any ot...

I am very familiar with the CILT TM CPC course. It is a blended learning course. You receive study materials sent to your home. There are also online tasks to do. Once a week for 7 weeks, the cohort meets with a tutor for two hours for a lesson. There are two exam preparation classes and one 1-2-1 s...

what's the exam like? Can you really sit it from home? All their exams are taken remotely, so yes, you can take it at home or anywhere you chose. They use a system called Remote Proctoring, so once you log into the exam, it will close down all other apps on your PC, so you cannot look up the intern...

MOT is only a check to state the vehicle was compliant at point of presentation. PMI is a safety clearance for the next period.

A driver should be able to open the window (even though it is not in the Annual Inspection) to give hand signals, clean mirrors or lenses, and listen to things like warnings or a police officer giving instructions.

Gate checks are to ensure the driver is carrying out their walk round. I did them about 35 years ago during my first supervisor position. I would check out about 160 vehicles in the morning. Most of the issues I picked up on were regarding cleanliness of the vehicle interiors, Tachos and the odd dri...

How would I get involved in auditing mate who to contact For audits, you will need in addition to your TM CPC, an ISO9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certificate, then begin contacting the audit providers. The only thing with the audits, it tends to be famine or feast, so it can be challenging on your time.

As mentioned above over and over, it is a NO. The MOT is just a test to pass the vehicle at the time it was presented, and it is not signed off to indicate it is safe to operate until the next scheduled PMI.

Much of the TC's judgement will be based on the size of the fleets you are responsible for. As stated above, you can be an ETM for up the four operators and no more than 50 vehicles, but this is a maximum provided you are not doing other work. When you make application on the TM1 form to be a TM, it asks for the date you passed your CPC. If it was more than 5 years ago, you are automatically asked to upload details of the refresher course. Then you are all set to go.

If ever the DVSA is investigating a wheel loss or lose wheel nut, the first thing they ask for is evidence of the torque wrench calibration. You can never over torque a wheel nut, just over tighten one, and that will not happen with a correctly set torque wrench.

Take a look at Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness for official guidance on intervals.
