I just bought a psv company 1 week ago which was formed 2 years ago i have 10 coaches on lease i have tried all the big insurance companies and few insurance brokers. I cant get the fleet insurance all of the insurance companies are declining the fleet insurance for my company because i do not have experience in coaching industry :(
Now i got lease, drivers are on stand by not sure what to do? really frustrated now
Can i get fleet insurance from EU which can cover me in UK?
or any thing else i can try to get fleet insurance?
Any help would be really appreciated.

I received my O Licence last month. I'm now in the final stages of purchasing a brand new luxury coach/minibus. My problem is I can't get any insurance quotes. The two reasons for this are... The value of the vehicle and because I have 9 points on my licence... (Yes I know :roll: )

Whether I get insurance as a company or in my name I still have to declare the points. Most insurance brokers use QBE and/or ERS, but they're the ones who won't quote me. Does anyone have any suggestions (apart from slow down :( ) or know any other companies I can try?

I wish I'd found this forum ages ago.

All my wife and I wanted to do was make a little bit of extra money driving a few children from the local villages to the remote secondary school in a minibus. I had no idea it was going to involve such a long, complicated, expensive, bureaucratic nightmare! :shock: Anyhow, in the past month I have at long last received my O License and passed my TM exams (PSV).

So now I am finding myself feeling overwhelmed with lots of admin and compliance tasks that I have no idea where to start with. Things like ...
What hardware and software do I need to record tacho data?
What apps should I use to do daily checks, or do I just use printed sheets?
Can I use the minibus for personal use, like moving a few bits of furniture that won't fit in the car, or collecting my children and their friends from late nights out?

And now that a friend knows that I have a minibus free over summer, he has asked if he can borrow it for a few weeks so his charity can help...

This PSV (passenger) licence was received in 2 months and 2 days but the caseworker on it was the crazy and evil James Thomson in the East of England traffic area. See this post about him. When you get a licence from crazy and evil Thomson in 2 months and 2 days, that's a very good day.

A very brief description of the requirements for a restricted PSV operator's licence can be viewed at this link . Below are 2 typical letters received by one company after their application was submitted. These letters show the actual and detailed requirements for a PSV operator's licence. Restricted licenses are hard to get and if you don't qualify for one, the OTC will give you the option to change your application to Standard and in that case you will need a transport manager .

As per the title I'm looking for a cloud based maintenance planner thats either specific to PCV or can be customised.

For years I used to use Distinctive Systems which ticks all the boxes except I need it to be cloud based now due to not all working in one building and whilst their software was excellent its a pain to use remotely when needed.

I'm sick of using spreadsheets as one of my operators changes vehicles a lot and the planner looks a mess especially when using the same cherished number plates. I thought I had found the ideal solution with Chevin software, priced per vehicle free demo etc etc but when applying for an trial and waiting all day for them to return the call i get an email saying they have a £6k minimum annual spend, not mentioned anywhere on their page so would avoid unless your running a very big fleet.

We already have custom software that covers all the normal walk rounds, job allocation etc for drivers just need to get something to keep track of...

Hi guys, new member to the forum looking for some much appreciated advice. I currently run a motorhome rental business but I’m in the process of diversifying into renting out a minibus with driver. 1 vehicle initially with scope for expansion. I’m currently researching school contracts for the local education authority which are won through a tender process. I’m happy with how to work out my costs but I’m at a bit of a loss when it comes to applying the profit margin. Is there a typical figure or range that companies use when applying for this type of work? I would also appreciate any general advice people are willing to offer up to help a company in its very early stages. Thanks.

When you apply for a PSV operator's licence, most likely you will be asked to provide photographs that show where your operating centre site is located and site plans. Site plans can be obtained using a satellite view on Google Maps .

The photographs should show, where appropriate:
the full parking area
entry and exit to the yard from the main road
the boundary of where your vehicles will park
each of the bays where each of your PSVs will park
any signs that show your spaces are restricted use, or where signs could be placed
space around all sides of the PSV(s) to allow a full walkround check could be completed
the area where your non-PSVs will park
the area where staff / visitors will park
the area(s) where the other occupants will park

Good evening,
I want to Down plate a VW Lt 45 mini bus down to below 3500kgs. It's going to be used as a van for limited business use.
I'd it as simple as getting it weighed and sending the documents through? I understand it may be Re tested by DVSA. I must send proof of the vehicle weight through to get the New Plate?
