My old company I use to work for do there CPC courses at weekends and they don't paye you for it right or wrong?

Its Your CPC to validate Your licence, I guess as you don't work there now, you are using Your licence and CPC elsewhere?
If it makes you feel better, my company pays for my CPC on a week day, on line, I can stay at home to do it, and they pay me!
Like everything, some companies are better than others, and I am still here, and not planning leaving a vacancy for a long time.

I think part of the problem with unpopularity is drivers having to do it in their own time and often having to pay for it themselves. My friends who work in other, often more sensible industries are blown away at how many drivers have to complete work training in their own time and pay for it. I personally think it should be law that if you’re a full time employee it should be at the companies expense, financially and time wise.

It's your DCPC so why would they pay when you can take it with you. Some pay for the course and not the time, others pay a days money and course, it just depends on the company. Some if they pay and you leave they deduct costs paid for remaining years that you have and taking with you.

If they are paying for the course, then surely it’s a small sacrifice for something you can take away and they can’t recover from you.
Alternatively, book a weeks leave and do it then.
People need to stop whining about making sacrifices to keep working.

this is where the hgv drivers of britain aren’t going any where to many different unions if this was most other countries drivers would be together and not bicker as to who’s right and who’s wrong and stick up for each other so everybody gets paid for doing it also organisations like the rha and the fta should be getting it sorted there for the employers but also stick up for employees but you don’t hear nothing from them

They are paying and offering you the opportunity to use your free time to attend. Your choice to attend or do another time at your expense. Simple!

If drivers undertook the 35 hr course as originally intended, EG 1 course, once a year, that's 8 hrs out of a whole year. But then maybe the math is a bit to complicated for some.

I am a bit peaved at my company. My role is mainly office bound but they expect me to drive in an emergency. To do that I need my CPC which runs out in 4 weeks and I need 3 days to complete it. They keep booking me on courses and either giving them to full time drivers who have a non duty day (which I understand) or cancelling them for various reasons. Now the big problem is I am off for a week, the boss is then off for 2 weeks and finally the other member of the team is off for a week. If they had told me they weren't going to put me through I would have booked some Saturday courses or 2 weekday evenings courses. I have always completed the 35 hours training with months if not years to spare.
