Not sure if anyone can help me here. So, I managed to get a class one position, which I had been in for 5 weeks. Now

it's hard enough to get on in this industry company's expect new pass drivers to be able to do what they expect... Ie.. you've got a class 1 licence that's an easy job... here ya go ta ta see you later... I've been driving 40 yrs+ had quite a few mishaps along the way.... new pass drivers still need coaching.... they've passed but only learnt the basic to pass experience comes with time... can't bin people off every time there's a minor bump...

Doesn’t sound like a good company to work for……
As for reversing, you tend to perfect that over time with practice.

Unfortunately unless you have recorded the phone call, it's your word against there's and since you're probably on 3 month probation they can say that you're not a suitable fit.
Lesson learnt, move on and try again 🙏

I'm sorry but that company sounds like the place I worked before which are Jobsworth A holes who look after each other instead of helping the new driver out I passed in Feb and went for class 1 role in the company I worked for nearly 3 years I done every role and yet I get a rude buddy trainer who sweared at me and shouted in my face and insulted me behind my back it was thanks to a friend who told me I reported him and yet they took his side instead of mine so I resigned and now joined the buses and truly am happy cause now I feel more welcomed and looked after then where I was
So I wouldn't ever let someone knock you down and say your bad from one little mistake nobody is peter perfect no matter how good your driving is
For me I find buses more easier to reverse then the lorrys

There not worth a light pal your better off with the hassle of worrying about having an accident. These things happen. It’s not as if you did it on purpose

absolutely. I've spent theblastv5 weeks constantly worrying about messing up that I don't feel my true potential has been able to come through. And to be told that it doesn't come natural, or I haven't picked it up as quick as other people really got my back up. Especially when it came from someone who can't even reverse their car 🙄

That seems very unfair! I expect whomever said that crap to you doesn't even have a class 1! Sounds like a crappy company to me! Don't be put off though, just remember it's not a mistake it's a learning experience.

For next time, remember GOAL. It takes me 20 mins or so to reverse my trailer lol and I could care less. I am new driver too. Get out and look.

yep, did all this, just totally misjudged the corner of the trailer. But their argument now is that they can't have someone taking too long reversing as they will lose money. I have no chance of ever getting anywhere with them. Time to move on.

Don't let anyone whose incapable of doing the same job bother you and their opinion doesn't matter just like they won't matter when you move on with your lovely gleaming new c plus e large goods vehicle licence, remember this always " they'll need you before you'll need them ", you'll get other work within a few days whereas the office pen pushers who fear even the rain outside will have to take weeks or months to get another job should the company go under, whilst you drive past waving in your new truck with leather heated seats and bass subwoofers and apple carplay and Android auto

for now until Volvo is in the garage to fix it, I will stay with another driver to get more help if needed. Sign just an accident report and that's all for now.
Hope it will go just better for all of us, we just need more practice 🙂
Good luck for you 🤞

Ik my company take the cost of any damage out of your bonus so definitely an incentive not to hit anything and be extra careful. They also expect some in the first year while your getting used to the size and maneuvers. Not all companies are like this.

Yeah sound like a bunch of d**ks. I pulled 2 airlines off in the space of 2 weeks one month into my current job. 2 call outs which I bet weren’t cheap and they were very decent about it. Keep your head up, search elsewhere and remember you earned your license! Good luck!!

Mate, I work with someone who has had a class one for about 20 years. He can't reverse for toffee. The best way to get good is to do shunting work.

To fix the curtain does not take a genius depends on how big the damage was. If that was enough for them to let you go their worth nothing. Some drivers don’t know how to reverse even after plenty of years 🤷‍♂️

I mean, it's not ideal, but, the damage wasn't major.
I didn’t mean anything wrong cos you’re still in learning course mate. You’ll be alright 😉

Sounds very petty Jailyn, stick with the class 1 if that's what you want to do don't let these people discourage you. I know blokes in the game been driving years and still can't reverse a trailer.

I have done, I've just accepted a job today with a company that seem really good. Pay isn't ideal, but, they seem like a really good bunch to work for. I'd rather earn less and be happier.

Hold your head up high Jailyn.... you we're honest enough to tell them about it.... take no notice of what people make poor comments.... how many curtain trailers do you see going past you or stood that have been patched.... I'm not Mr Perfect either. I ripped about 10ft along my trailer 1 morning (got caught on a post not enough swing) sounds a sh*t company anyway give a start then bin you off for about £20 worth of damage..... good luck in finding a new role happy trucking...

Jesus you hit a trailer it's hardly the end of the world 🙄 don't let any sad sack tell you something isn't for you!! That's nobody else's call other than your own. Reversing takes time and practice but you will inevitably get there - a better job awaits close that door and allow another to open 🙂

I've been driving class 1 for 16 months. I've had a few skirmishes in that time.
Held my hands up. And my gaffer has been much less hard on me than I was expecting him to be.
Maybe the company you were with, isn't the company for you.
It's their loss. Try again elsewhere. Find yourself a decent boss.

Thank you everyone, I feel so much better after all your comments, feeling like my confidence has been knocked, but, I've accepted a new job, driving class 1, and had my assessment, so, hopefully, I'll be much happier and manage to get my confidence up again. 🙂
