What are people’s thoughts? Not sure if I should bother appealing this but on m6 j2/3 stranded vehicle in lane one

HarZest, not always the case, on the M1 at junction 16 there were signs (physical ones) that said the left lane was shut after the junction but there was a red x on the gantry before junction 16. As I wanted to come off there I put my left indicator on to show the cameras that I was coming off, other people didn't know what to do so they moved over then moved back as we got to the junction. I contacted the police about the confusion and they responded that you shouldn't be in a red x lane but the police also said that the junction should be shut off which it wasn't so it falls down to the commissioner (which is a grey area) in sure more people complained as 2 days later the red x was taken down.

A Red X is a Red X cross mate, and a Red cross is a money spinner.

I'll give you another example, from junction 16 to 18 one lane is shut there are physical signs that say the speed limit is 50 mph and there are average cameras along there, but the gantry says 60mph so which is it again a grey area.

Dunno pal, at the end of the day it was a Red X and not an average speed camera.

Not sure if I should bother appealing this but on m6 j2/3 stranded vehicle in lane one so red x on gantry I moved to lane 2 and once past the stranded vehicle I moved back into lane 1 as I could see it was clear ahead however lane did still have red x above and I’ve been given £100 fine and 3 points. The fine fair enough but the points is a piss take as I was past the vehicle that caused the red x.
What are people’s thoughts?

Think it is harsh personally, but I doubt that will be enough to appeal even with mitigating circumstances. Your best bet is to get legal advice (preferably free). I'd assume if you can see that's there no nobody about at a red light and you ran it, the fact there was no traffic would not get a lighter sentence. I could be wrong and the points might be able to be able. Gone are the days when a traffic cop pulls you over and they issue a ticket depending on the actual circumstances and whether your driving was actually careless or not. Now it's all about generating money, nothing else and being technically guilty. Only way not to get fined is to obey the road signs to the absolute letter of the law. Period. Anything else you take your chances.

Assume the Op actually pleaded guilty by post s and paid the fine to the form they received. Appeal would be to the crown court AFAIR, what would you appeal against that you weren’t aware of at the time you pleaded guilty?
