Wages for class 1 now are a joke, it’s going backwards. The only job offer I have is 14 quid an hour class 1 nights.

Glad I am retired and out of the game , but as long as you lads accept working for straight money or silly overtime rates you are never going to be paid sensible money . Before I retired 6 years ago the firm I worked for was paying time for 40 hrs , time & half for anything before 0700 and after 8 hrs working during the week Saturdays was time & half ,Sunday was double time and bank holidays was treble time . It was installation work and mostly double manned but even before that job every firm I had worked at paid the same sort of rates just different basic weeks from 40hrs up to 50 hrs . Once people accepted straight pay for hours worked or time & quarter or thirds as overtime rates you all got buggered by the companies and agencies.

car transportation was the highest paid driver wages in the country about 30 years ago until companies came in and undercut the rates and they offered lower wages for drivers Keddy was based in Upper Heyford and paid shit money and after about two years settling up they bought the roadshow company that I worked for and ruined it, they cut our pay rates so we had to resort to booking loads of overtime to get paid the same, eventually I believe they folded also, I will not feel sorry for them 😆
it's a very familiar story mate

If you want to earn decent money and don't mind living in a shoe box all week, try cartransporters. We can't get drivers to come into the industry because not everyone can live in a small truck for the week.
The money for us is around 48k to 60k+ if your prepared to work for it. Paid by the hour. But it's not for everyone. It'll f#%k with your head for the1st 6 months and then it's like a light bulb moment, it all clicks.
It's hard work, you get piss wet through summer or winter but once your in the industry you'll probably never leave it.

Plus. There’s much more to a job than just “it’s £13 an hour”
Paid breaks?
When does overtime come in?
How much is overtime?
Is it a good firm to work for?
Wagon drivers have allways made their money off the overtime. You want the money put the hours in.

Jesus ... I bet Aldi, Tesco etc are full off ex lorry drivers🤣
Maybe if the wages are so bad...become your own boss, grow some balls and get an O licence buy a truck insurance fuel etc etc and then wait 60 days for payment and become a millionaire...🤣🤣

I’ve been driving lorries for 34 years… what I’ve learned in that time is that in the majority of cases that the harder you’re willing to work the better money is… if you just want to be a steering wheel attendant that only opens doors or curtains then expect a shit rate… if you have a job that needs you to actually unload the lorry then the money is a lot better!

Let's compare to other jobs...
£13 per hour x 40h x 4 = £2,080
£2.080 - 20% tax and 2% NI =
£1,622 clear per month
- £800 rent
- £800 living costs
- £400 working costs
- £250 CSA
= £2250
That's a £650 short fall.
So need to work 60 hours a week to make up.
It's not right!

well the class 1 jobs I’m getting offered at the moment are for 14 an hour , sometimes lower , so yeah that’s what’s out there . Only reason I can pay bills and get a measley 16 an hour is if I work nights and they give me rolled up holiday pay , so it’s not really 16 an hour , it’s 14 something per hour . Days are 13 pound something , so yeah he just as well of working in Lidl

As things stand guys, I have to count my blessings I suppose. I have just turned retirement age, not all of us had the opportunity of private pensions and savings so state pension it is, coupled with the fact I have COPD.

I'm on night rate but hardly ever hit more than 10 hours a night so works out £18 per hour but if I did do 10 hours+ works out less. At end of day as long as I'm clearing enough to cover bills does not bother me

I’ve 25 he can buy. He’s welcome to the lot. The rates haven’t dropped they have stayed the same and everything else has gone up in the last good few years except rates. Wages have though well ours have. Yet the haulier himself has had no return. Our insurance went up by 50k due to drivers not giving a f**k but they don’t see that. To many out there excepting rates at 2010 prices. Jobs like this for while yet

as you know mate I only have the one, and in all honesty I am getting a better wage at the moment doing DCPC training and just taking the truck out when that's quiet, more for something to do than earn a wage.
How long it takes for the bubble to burst only time will tell, it's a question of who can hold on at the current rates and rising costs.

I would rather drive a lorry for £12ph than stack shelves. I'm on my own music on and no people around me.
People bang on its a professional job bla bla bla, it takes 4 days to get your license and people expect doctors wages. It's just driving and follow taco rules it's not rocket science. We would all love more money but it is what it is. drive it for that money or don't and go stack shelves don't know why there is so many people crying about it. 90% of driving jobs are seriously easy and easy money

you driving for £ 12 per hour is the problem!! Anyone can drive forward. It's the responsibility and knowledge that needs to be paid for! My Daughter works for CO OP, she's on nearly £15 an hour.

Are you aware that one mistake and you can potentially kill multiple people on the road right? It's not rocket science but it's a Mentally demanding job that should be Paid well. Does not matter how long it takes to get the pass on the test. It's the 15 hours of unbroken Attention on the road is what you should be paid for.

no obviously not aware of that only drove them for over 10years
16 hours training and people expect £20ph not going to happen it most places
Most hgv jobs are £12-14per hour. Deal with it or go stack shelves.
And if eveyone was paid £20ph + we would all be Paying for it because the cost of everything would sky rocket then people would have somthing to moan about wouldn't they
Hgv driving it's an easy job with long hours deal with it or leave simple as that

What bills do you have? That's a decent wage for lots of people. Obviously you need regular work to get the bills paid.

Go buy your own truck you can pay yourself as much as you want then
One of the reasons so many companies are shutting is due to the wages
Everyone wants stuff as cheap as possible but then wants to biggest wages it’s all down to greed

Too many drivers now after the government saying there was a shortage... all bull 💩 no driver shortage and now new drivers can't get jobs as companies want 2 years experience... save your money and spend it on something that will reward you... this industry been f**ked for years.. and with no regulator or worthy Union on wages or Conditions the agencies and certain companies will do what they like.

to be honest when I did my test 37yrs ago most companies still required 2-5yrs experience because of their insurance company required it.
