Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
I quite often will have a 15min very early into my shift. Saves me sitting for full 45min afterwards actually doing that now, and only been on duty for 20min with 5min driving.
As soon as there is 1min of work or driving done, you can have a break. One place I worked had a run that took 4:25min to complete. Plus time to get a trailer etc. which usually used to take around 10min. So I always used to get my trailer, checks etc. then 45min break, and then set off with enough time to get to my delivery in one go.

I remember when I first got my first job tis fella I was working with at this house in my old landscaping job I worked with he had a cuppa and a sandwich at 7am before doing any work . I’m that type who gets on with work as soon as I arrive gotta be busy. I can’t sit still.
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
For it to count for the WTD you just need to register 1 minute of working time, either driving or other work, for it to count as the 1st part of a split driving break you just need to register at least 1 minute of driving.
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
take your whole 45 after 1 minute if you want ...

Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!

This is what’s wrong with the CPC they don’t teach you the basics

Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
there’s a huge amount of that. I’m a CPC trainer, but I was a driver long before that, I hate sitting in CPC courses where the trainer doesn’t know anywhere near as much as they should. Not all CPC courses are created equal!Overton+Hi wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:02 pm This is what’s wrong with the CPC they don’t teach you the basics

my biggest gripe is how dare you keep on unifying me over 36 years of tramping I just wish the industry would stand together for once. And yes, I come from a generation of 3 in the Haulage industry.rouxell wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:03 pmthere’s a huge amount of that. I must admit, when it first came in I was not a happy bunny, I had 15 under my belt at that time. Felt like bit of a slap in the face.Overton+Hi wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:03 pmmy biggest gripe is how dare you keep on unifying me over 36 years of tramping I just wish the industry would stand together for once. But I think it largely depends on the trainer as well as the course being undertaken.

You can have a break after 1 minute of working or driving if you wish.
If you have a break after 1 min of work, but you've yet to register any driving, it won't count as a 15 for Drivers Hours purposes but it will count towards WTD breaks.

Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!

Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
I've had breaks 2 mins into my first hour lol. Why wouldn't you?

Some good comments on here, some not so good!
For a driving break, make sure you’ve recorded some driving, for a WT break, make sure you’ve recorded some WT. which is what most people have said.
When it comes to “take them whenever you like” you may want to check company policy first.
Your company CAN tell you when and where to take your break, you are after all in their vehicle and they are paying you. What they CAN’T do, is ask you to break the law (go over your WT or driving time, use break when working etc). I’ve never worked for a company that told me when and where, but they do exist.

and drivers constantly ask "Why do we need Dcpc" this post should be used as an explanation.
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
Yes you can I’d do vehicle checks time whatever your company policy is on that I have to show 15 then do at least one minute drive as I was told when I first started the wheels need to move before the head resets the drive time.
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
Do the cpc again...
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
Yes, but if you want it to count towards driving time break you have to have a minimum of a minute of drive time showing, otherwise it’ll only come off your wtd

If you have a break before you've done enough drive time to register the 2 mins on the tacho, it will only count as a WTD break and not a drive time break.

Yep, only after you done your checks and 1 minutes drive, if you want it to count as part of your driving hours too
Re: Good morning all! Can I have a break within my first hour of duty? Thanks!
Yes.
EU rules you need at least 1 minute driving, WTD you must not work for more then 6 h without a break (15mins every 6h)
