Just out of interest.
How many of you night drivers (i.e. working at any point between 00:00 and 04:00) get offered a yearly free health check by your employer? And do you take them up on it? Seems a lot of drivers don’t know what they’re entitled to and just wondered what your experiences are…

I did not know about it. As I am starting my journey in this industry, just as well I found out about it! Should this be stipulated in the contract? Or is it a law? 😘

hi seen you in another group! Yes it is RTD (working time) law that you have to be offered regular medicals. You don’t have to take them.

There are numerous things drivers are entitled to, but through lack of knowledge/ignorance the employers get away without offering it.
Another example is parity pay and conditions for agency drivers!

It's not all conditions though, so you wouldn't expect agency drivers to be offered things like free healthcare or holidays or a pension etc by the client. Pay is matched after a certain period but tbh, most agency rates are higher than what the firms are paying, hence why agency work is more attractive.
The last place I worked on agency I was on £15/hour for first 8 hours, £18.75 for anything over and an uplift for weekends and bank holidays.
Direct employees were on around £9.80 but they got a bonus of £4 per drop of wood outside of London and £10 per drop of wood inside the M25. We didn't get that of course but if somebody offered me parity there, I'd have told em to stick it up their backside! 🤣

We get health checked all the time at our place because of the work we do site wise but I don't like doctors and people messing with me so it's not a big deal for me but good to get it out there for people

I've never been offered but I've never worked regular nights. One firm I worked for that employed night drivers offered though. All depends on 3 things.
How big the firm is
How bent they are
How clued up are the driver's that work there 🤣

I imagine alot of drivers don't know it. Just like alot of office staff won't know that they're entitled to a break every hour if they work soley on visual display equipment, and that any worker who uses visual display equipment (computers, iPads, laptops etc) is entitled to a free eye test. They get a voucher from their employer or their employer pays back the cost when presented with a receipt.
