Things have moved on, that’s what everyone seems to forget. Yes years ago we were expected to work long long hrs etc, I also spent time over in Canada, the way they work there now is how we did 30 years ago.
It’s definitely a lifestyle choice there it doesn’t have to be here now.

yes and with changes in how we work it's a good thing, drivers will live longer and be more healthy and have better lives with there families things are a lot different now and for the better, however I'm glad I did and experienced what I did, as I come to the end of my driving career

I rang dowse, offered to do some days work experience for free, just to see how they operate and try to make contacts, get my foot in the door as they are local, I got a blunt “call bk in 6mths”
Not sure if it was the same guy on the phone.. both were very negative towards new starters tho I found 😊

I was talked into doing my C+E after 24 years of driving C......it's growing on me now but I wasn't keen at first tbh, but now it's not so bad. I'm lucky to have a dream job it's taken me this long to find.....nights, no contact with anyone at all once I leave the yard, fixed wage job and finish 9:30pm till 4:30 am ish. Stick to your guns and keep looking for the job YOU want. You'll find it.

it might be a case of taking the "least bad" job while you wait, but never be scared to change jobs. You don't get anything for loyalty or long service from 99.9% of bosses. You're in it for you at the end of the day, not them.

Supermarkets will give you close to what you are looking for. I think culina group offer both shifts and most mentioned. Where most decent companies used to want two years experience, most offer new licence holders a chance.
All the best with your future career.

My dad was on a train going to London, and near him was a respectable man, my dad asked him could he tell him what is the cheapest thing on that truck they were passing on the M1, no said the guy, my dad it's the driver. Good luck in finding a firm that respects driver for the job they do, there most all owned by multinational companies your just a number that is on your vehicle.

If you live anywhere Louth, try menzies (used to be Bibby) am on 4 on 4 off on nights, best shift, easy work, and over the wage that you are looking at.

I work out of Milton Keynes, you’ll get uniform, training, and since Menzies took Bibby’s over, the fleet is changing to 21 plate MANs, Hope this helps.

Few months back now I was on £18ph on pallet work as they were desperate then I realized why I kept at it until I couldn't cope with the poor management and the fact wanted u do it quickly but maintain a overall 95% driving score.

Well, I am a new pass and on my 3rd job, it seems I ticked almost all your boxes apart from paid breaks and parking fines, as the company pays for your parking. Yes, there will be a job like that, it just not might be your first one. Maybe without the experience that I gained in the last few months, I would have failed my assessment with this company! Best of luck and enjoy it!

You only work half of the year and it's a great work/life balance

Poundland, culina & hermes all Currently take on new pass drivers after a assessment both written & driving. I only had my artic liscence 2 weeks & no driving at all, up to assessment at Poundland Harlow, passed it on the day & got offered a job.2 weeks training on artics, trailers Inc rear steers, doubble deckers,45 ft &33 ft short trailers, paperwork, manual handling everything, uniform paid 4 weekly so 13 payments a year max 2 X drops a day...no one chasing you or calling you. For me now ive done 6 months here at Harlow no need to look elsewhere it's 8 min from hone £16 pH plus 50 p pH infringement bonus..good enough for me so well reccomended....just starting out on the journey but previously done 25 years on rigids...👍from me
