Hello, 18 and passed my HGV 2 driving for a well known logistics company loving the job, plenty of training from company, and obviously you have to be competent to pass your HGV test. According to car insurance, I’m still just as high risk as any other 18 year old lad without a HGV license..... Can someone please shed some light on how insurance companies think this way, I don’t believe for a second a normal boy racer thinks and drives anywhere near the same way I think and drive. Nearly £1800 to insure my 1.5 Nissan Juke taking the piss now insurance are.

You're more likely to drive whilst tired which means you're more of a risk despite your higher driving standards.

They look at a hgv driver as more of an insurance risk due to the amount of time & distance you travel on the toad, putting you at more of an accident risk, even though it’s not your vehicle

this is what I’m trying to say we all have much better anticipation etc. yet we get punished even though we don’t go over the legal working time/driving times because apparently we are still tired and a high risk. Just no sense to any of it.Dever+Go wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:46 amI couldn’t believe it when they told me. Anything to get more money out of ya. Lack of experience, could have all the categories in the world but if you've only driven for a year you're still inexperienced and high risk compared to others, I'm 24 and my insurance is 500 for year, just don't hit own and it'll go down

Fair play, I got a 3 series estate, only £5 a month more to insure than the Polo I had. Hope it comes down below the £500 mark this year though.BRADDraven wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:50 am1.8 Vectra, 6 years no claims, my renewal came up at 900 so I ran a quote and exact same firm offered it me for 500 so I asked unpolite if I could pay the cheaper onejimegioMud wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:49 amwhat do you drive? Just tell insurance that your a delivery driver as you don't really have to include what your actually driving, its cheaper that way.

oh really, well my insurance knows my full occupation now as I slipped up a couple of years ago now, however my insurance is low enough now cause of my age, just thought it might help the lad out as I know how the young lads and lasses struggle with the outrageous costs of insurance nowadays, I have two kids driving now and it nearly cripples them.Lukellar_18 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:25 amexactly they never asked us what we driver, still doing delivery’sRUtherNot wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:24 amwell you are kinda a delivery driver we just deliver in larger quantities, it works for me.Lukellar_18 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:24 am

I pay £430 for this fully comp with all mods declared.
1800 at 18yr old is mega cheap!
My insurance was £2500 for a 1.4 Corsa SRI 10yrs ago.
It’ll get cheaper the more experience you have with that car and as you get older

all ours been restricted mate all set in eco modes so it probs isn’t far of your old MAN limited to 52 too so you just sit there on the motorway with your hand up apologizing to all the other wagons for holding them up Same with roundabouts, your like yep that’ll do me, next thing the artic that was 3 miles down the road is coming round and the engines only just decided to pick up. Crap mate but have to laugh about it otherwise all the problems it causes would get you down!32blancines wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:37 amhaving a laugh ain’t you ! at least you lads in the artic have a bit more power to start of with, coming from the DAFs we have it would probably feel twice as quick
Yeah I know that feeling with them! Just have to enjoy them while they’re empty ! Luckily they’re only tools for work

You spend more time on the road you're more of a risk mate, not many jobs are likely to have you smash out 15 hour days then drive home. It's shit but that's the way they look at it.

Because your 18 and regardless of what you think your still young and have a lot to learn about driving especially heavy goods.. but you think we'd get it cheaper because we're "professionals" but not the case, i put civil servant down.

totally agree on the inexperience side of things mate, it’s just that you have to be of a certain standard to pass a HGV test regardless of experience and like you say we are then regarded as “professionals” in the eyes of the law and DVLA so surely we would at least be deemed as slightly less of a risk

Agree mate, don't be too sure on the "standard" though mate, I've seen a fair few Muppets driving who i think got very lucky on the day, some be 10year experience and still can't reverse for shit and pretty shit going forward too.Lukellar_18 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:52 amtotally agree on the inexperience side of things mate, it’s just that you have to be of a certain standard to pass a HGV test regardless of experience and like you say we are then regarded as “professionals” in the eyes of the law and DVLA so surely we would at least be deemed as slightly less of a risk

defo, seen a fair few like you say and does make you question how they get away with things and how they keep their licenses. Can’t beat the old car drivers though, never fails to amaze me how lucky they are in some situations, especially those that decide they want to merge behind then decide they want to come in front and will do anything they can to get in front hahaha. Got to take things with a pinch of salt on the road unfortunately nowadays.jamitemTX wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:53 amAgree mate, don't be too sure on the "standard" though mate, I've seen a fair few Muppets driving who i think got very lucky on the day, some be 10year experience and still can't reverse for shit and pretty shit going forward too.Lukellar_18 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:52 amtotally agree on the inexperience side of things mate, it’s just that you have to be of a certain standard to pass a HGV test regardless of experience and like you say we are then regarded as “professionals” in the eyes of the law and DVLA so surely we would at least be deemed as slightly less of a risk

it’s fine with me for now mate, I’m still loving watching people take on the M6 average speed cameras and then watch it flash about three times in a minute because people are thick enough to think it’s only an advisory speed limit At least it’s keeps the road well lit!jamitemTX wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:54 ameveryday mate, that's the joys of roads so get use to it lol.Lukellar_18 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:53 amdefo, seen a fair few like you say and does make you question how they get away with things and how they keep their licenses.
