Hi all need some advice if possible.
Looking at starting a haulage firm but don't want to go to big (for obvious reasons) so looking at using my pick up and poss a trailer. What's the rules and regulations before going over the 3.5t threshold
Vehicle ill be using is a l200 kerb weight is 1160
Gross weight is 2789
Thanks in advance

I think there’s something wrong with your L200 if it weighs only 1160 kg.
The L200 needs to be double cab and dual purpose vehicle.
Then you’ll need tachometer
The right insurances
and clients

kerb weight is motor oil etc. Might have the numbers mixed up. On the log book and tax it is classed as a commercial vehicle (ex farm work horse I belive)
It is a double cab and I could use it as dual purpose as its my only mode of transport
So basically i can get away without putting a tacho in as it's dual purpose

no, you will still need a tacho, the dual purpose saves you from needing and Operators LicenseNBally wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 6:33 am kerb weight is motor oil etc. Might have the numbers mixed up. On the log book and tax it is classed as a commercial vehicle (ex farm work horse I belive)

you need a tacho for when pulling a trailer but it only needs to be used when trailer is connectedNBally wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 6:33 am kerb weight is motor oil etc. Might have the numbers mixed up. On the log book and tax it is classed as a commercial vehicle (ex farm work horse I belive)

Do it properly and get a curtainsided sprinter or similar... 4-6 pallet spaces with 1050/1100 kgs capacity. You need a lot of specials and JITs to make it work...

have been looking at a dropside transit. As well as long as I'm under the 3.5t threshold I should be OK. Don't want dvsa chewing me a new one

If your looking at a Transit drop side and a trailer, you will be over the 3.5kg limit so tach and an operators licence required as it’s hire and reward and the transit can’t be duel purpose vehicle
