ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
Hi guys, ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest (thankfully at home.)
If I could understand from the doc after having a pacemaker and defibrillator fitted, I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right because when I left hospital, I was dosed up on all sorts and not sure of what they said.

Heart attack and cardiac arrest are different. Heart attack is where the artery to the heat muscle is blocked. This can lead to a cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest is where the heart stops beating and you are technically dead. You have a few minutes where they can try and restart the heart. Very little chance of getting your licence back after a cardiac arrest however after a heart attack it is possible as I did it.

Cardiac arrest is a whole different story than a heart attack bloke where I worked had 1 and was told by DVLA his HGV licence is not suspended its revoked and he ha zero chance of getting it back doctors told him the same

I also had a cardiac arrest, had stents fitted,I then had a pacemaker and a icd(implant cardiac defibrillator)if it was just a pacemaker implant I had then after a while and if passed medical I could have got my license back, but because I had the ice implant as well I can't get my license back,so if you have the defibrillator fitted I am afraid the answer is no you can't get your license back.
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
I had heart attack December 13th had 2 stents fitted was told by DVLA not to drive my car for 6 weeks and my lorry for 8 weeks then I was driving then 8 weeks after driving DVLA wanted me to go for tread mill test passed that so clean bill of health from heart attack to all good from DVLA roughly 5 months hope you stay well

When you have a heart attack your licence is suspended, you will have to prove you are fit enough to get it back, this will take around a year.
This obviously depends on how serious your heart attack was etc.
Speak to your doctor to get the best advice.

I’ve had a seizure and DVLA revoked mine for 5 years even tho initially told just the 1 year.. Heart attacks are a lot less I’m led to believe.. Hope you find your answer

Had a heart attack last February(only a small one) was put on beta blockers to lower the heart rate for 3 weeks(my heart rate was high as fuck for some reason) had my license revoked under medical suspension, had a treadmill test in July and received license back on the 22nd august last year! It’s hard to get back, but worth it! Hope you’re feeling better, get plenty of rest and good luck!

My hubby collapsed aug 2020 was his heart out of sync, not heart attack hes on tabs to control it he had car and 7.5t licence revoked march, his doc and specialist says hes ok to drive he had to fight to get his car licence back which he got in sept. Still curently fighting for his 7.5t entitlement to go back on as that was his job before, hes in the warehouse which he hates at same company for now.

I had a heart attack 15 years ago. I had a bypass and it took DVLA a full 12 months to give me my license back.
In the meantime, I had tests that discovered that I had a lot of damage and had moderate heart failure, and this meant that I no longer met the minimum health standards and no more HGV or 7.5t again. That took a year.
The point that I am making is that you have to tell the DVLA what has happened and you may well be waiting a long time for a decision.
It’s shit mate, but it isn’t the end of the world. Look on the bright side - you had a cardiac arrest and lived.

We have a driver at our place who has had a heart attack, so it can be done. I know he has to have regular medical and hes licence is only for a few years at a time. I.ll.see him tomorrow and ask him
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
i think it makes a difference because I've had a defibrillator fitted. I think if it was only a pacemaker, id still be allowed to drive subject to regular medicals like your driver. But yeah, if you could let me know please.

pacemaker would be no issue , unfortunately with a crt-d the professional licence is gone know that from my own experience
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
Every case is different I had a cardiac arrest last year . Got 3 stents fitted and was back on the road after 12 weeks . After going to the hospital and taking a treadmill test under the supervision of my consultant . The dvla will pay your consultant for his time
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
If you are allowed to apply given history then you will have to do treadmill. It all takes a while. Your own doctor will give you best advice
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
Leave it a few weeks and keep your head down Dvla are quick to take your licence and the doctor give it a few weeks and take it from there .

Contact you local surgery tomorrow they will give you better advice than a supposedly professional drivers page

WTF?! The INSURERS are way worse than the DVLA: THEY decide who drives what! You are gonna fill out that medical questionnaire HONESTLY arent you? Right, well if you do you can forget Agency work, might get a low paid salaried Staff job though.
Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
ive got a job mate, a well paid job. They will keep me on. I was the transport manager for a while before deciding to go back on the artic. But even if I don't get my licence back, I have a job.

ASDA wouldve welcomed you with open arms on their £425/wk but they got double deckers and fired half of them so much for their Job For Life!

Re: ive recently suffered with a cardiac arrest. I cant drive hgv's ever again. Does anyone know if this is 100% right
The cardiologist and DVLA will be the best ones for advice, will be at least 6 weeks and pending treadmill tests.

I ain't got a clue, but well done everyone for sensible answers for once...was half expecting to see comments about a bucket with wet sponges and carrying jumpleads in the cab...
Seriously impressed, and OP I hope you are ok, whether driving or not.
