I d say the best advice is to be well rested for your shift, take food and water with you. And be relaxed driving when it all starts getting to you that's when you'll make a mistake. And if in doubt ask people around you some are very helpful others not so much!!

Don’t believe people when they say “we’ve had bigger than that in here.” Always get out and have a look for yourself.
Don’t trust SatNav buy a good map. I still have my A to Z’s.
Learn the width and length of your wagon.
Practice makes perfect but remember every days a school day.
Don’t get cocky your always one mistake from a f@ck up.
Once you have experience remember those that have helped you on the way and honour them by passing on the lessons you’ve learned.
All the drivers and transport managers that mess you about on your travels may their next sh1te be a hedgehog backwards.
There will be good days and bad days. Take the rough with the smooth.
When at a truck stop and you take a shower never bend down for dropped soap without checking your back door.

No such thing as a stupid question if u don’t know ask if your not sure ask and with regards to reversing it takes less time to get out and have a look than it does to fill an accident form in
Re: If you had to give a newly passed class 2/1 driver a piece of advice, besides choose a different job, what would it
Don’t feel pressured to do things which aren’t safe. If you’re instructed to do something dangerous, refuse. It’s your license at the end of the day, not a customers or your bosses

Dont take Any Bull from your planner..And dont let them Rule your life..Its your licene not theirs
Re: If you had to give a newly passed class 2/1 driver a piece of advice, besides choose a different job, what would it
The only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask. If your not sure….ask. We were all new once. When reversing, do it slow and steady. You can take as many shunts as needed. Best advice anyone can give is to just enjoy it. Every day is different

Always check where somewhere is on Google maps/Street View before you get there. It saves so much pain if the postcode is wrong or you have to enter from a certain direction or there good in is on a different road etc.

Make sure to look around more, give yourself more space, try avoiding getting to stressed as that will cause more damage.
Plenty of time

My advice would be dont listen to anyone's advice about the job that's been in the same place for 30 years telling you how bad it is . It tells you more about them tbh .

Have your witts about dont 100% trust some one watching you back amd if it looks tight get out and check your surroundings there’s always that sneaky driver that pulls in behind you when reversing unless your doing bay work then you shouldn’t have that issue lol double check when coupling/uncoupling

If in doubt, stop. I'd rather bring traffic to a halt for 2min to check if it's tight, than become a YouTube star.
Re: If you had to give a newly passed class 2/1 driver a piece of advice, besides choose a different job, what would it
Take your time, don't let them (anyone) pressure you into making mistakes, and don't hit anything.

Don't tailgate always make sure have you have room to avoid whatever happens in front of you.

Don’t change speed or position to let cars/vans on at slip road. If one truck does it they expect all trucks to do it.

Dont worry about anything, stay carm and dont give a shit about inpatient dicks who try and rush you
Re: If you had to give a newly passed class 2/1 driver a piece of advice, besides choose a different job, what would it
Take your time, ask questions whether they are silly or not. Remember GOAL and don't let car drivers piss on you. Own the road, they will move out of your way not the other way around.

Don't give your phone number to the birds you pick up while on the road
They just might ring you when your home with the Mrs at weekend lol

Re: If you had to give a newly passed class 2/1 driver a piece of advice, besides choose a different job, what would it
If in doubt ask someone or stop get out and look for yourself first before enter some yards and remember it is better to get out and check while reversing few times than smash something . Good Luck mate

Never allow yourself to be rushed or pushed. Make sure you're happy with the load before you set off. And extra few minutes does no harm. Get a hard copy of the tacho regs for reference and don't ask online. It'll only lead to a row.
