Well I had an audit and was told I need to be doing it at every PMI
well by last 15 years im PMI Inspector and garage in permanent touch with TC and DVSA so i may not know...
Well am just going off what the TC said in response to my audit
is advised to make sure brakes working correctly. That's all. No any law that say you even have to use decelerometer but we using 1 for every PMI done at customers yard. you need some more years in the trade to understand what TC attempts to overpower are and what's the actual law.

Seymort, correct normal requirement is ever other safety inspection if the other lad is required to have an audit and a test every safety inspection i suspect hes had a bad mot pass rate or some other maintenance issues its called a VBT a voluntary brake test not obligatory

aye you correct. But I wasn't sure if when I mention that it won't start shitstorm. To get audit you have to do something that pay their attention...
But it is best to do them every PMI. As a driver, operator, transport manager, its good to know that the brakes are working as they should be or if there are any issues that arise.
just to save myself from further earache, I'm here with our local ATF owner and it's a 'should'... He's just shown me in black and white the update from April and it's 1 compulsory at test and 3 advisories through the year.
I'm not advocating not having one every inspection, very laudible... I just can't abide the 'I think you'll find ' brigade spouting.
Crack on.....

Break testing to be done with your inspection to come inline with the TC
No. At PMI is advised to make sure brakes are ok but there is no any MUST to test them even with decelerometer. Only 4 times a year roller test is must have. 1 is MOT 3x is separate test.

Hi guys,
Does the MOT test count as 1 test for that year ?
No. Think of a truck with 1.1mm tread on tyres. It would pass a MOT, but should fail a PMI. Most people carry out a PMI as past of the MOT prep though.
