They had Skyliners which were 3 axle. This is a Megaliner. Only available in Europe.

not ignorance at all. I only know the Silver Choice were Skyliners as the drivers used to give us lifts from our digs in London back to Victoria. I used to see the Megaliners in France when on shuttles. Only reason I knew of the difference is after seeing them in the flesh.

I drove the skylines for Silver Choice 20 odd years ago, 4 over 4 8 speed manuals. They were ex Parks motors.

I wouldn't have thought it would be legal with the main doors being on the off-side

if they so happen to get it registered as a British vehicle they obviously need to get a coif certificate so it would have a passenger entrance door on the drivers side along with a number of other things before they can get an MOT for it, that’s exactly what they do with left hand drive coaches registered on British platesabrage_hemp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:09 pm I wouldn't have thought it would be legal with the main doors being on the off-side

There was a pink one of those in the UK few years ago . Demonstrator . Looked bloody awful
Re: Evening all. Need some ideas. I want one of these, probably not legal in the UK.
Why would it not be legal? It's only 15m.
It just wouldn't be terribly practical unless you do a lot of continental work

i don’t think they are illegal they started coming over to the uk in the late 80s, there was a bit of controversy about 15 metre coaches driving around British roads but here we are today with 13 and 14 metre coaches without anyone batting an eye lid

If anything like Dublin coach ones.
I'm sorry still have nightmares after driving them.
Pure scrap.
How many times you left kildare heading for monasterevan and the door would open about a mile up the road.

They were always on the spanish shuttles to malgrat and lloret from Germany in the late eighties and nineties

I do remember how these things used to fly past the UK coaches in France. The only thing that could pass them were the Welsh Airforce (Ferris)

These were like being passed by a train, not much passed us in our Scania Berkoff 4000. Except the the Welsh airforce. Got them back at Dover homeward, they always got the shed

12 metre coaches go back as far as 1970/1 when United Automobile Services and Eastern and Western Scottish took Bristol REMH. Leopards also appeared around the same time. The 12-metre length would be law until the early 2000s. National Express has dispensation to operate three Plaxton Volvos around 2002/3 that had been built at 12.3 metres to accommodate a centre wheelchair lift. Any foreign coach coming in longer was doing so illegally. I did see a four axle Neoplan on occasion in Victoria Coach Station. Traffic Commissioners would turn them, so I was told by one, and return to Dover empty if caught. Not long after 2003 the law would change and bring the UK in line with Europe.

Think of all those B- windows to clean !!!
Re: Evening all. Need some ideas. I want one of these, probably not legal in the UK.
I had an Ex Harry Shaw Skyliner that was like a rocket. It had the Gardner Turbo Eng. would out-pull most vehicles over the Apennines with 70+ people up and luggage at 100 kph it would do just over 1,100 revs and regularly on Rome doing 12 MPG. All ok until they go wrong !!

I remember doing a lot of miles in that beast that little lever on the side was brilliant on the mountains!!
Re: Evening all. Need some ideas. I want one of these, probably not legal in the UK.
Seen this discussed before and we had (about 3 years ago) 3 if these registered as on the road in the UK, definitely not practical on our roads as designed to cross the European continent and munch thousands of miles at once, but I’d love a go in one at least.
