Hello A operator is having a appraisal for his maintenance systems. A vehicle examiner is visiting the operating

Post by JJacqui8 »

Hello
A operator is having a appraisal for his maintenance systems. A vehicle examiner is visiting the operating centre. His requested 1 HGV and 1 trailer. But the operator has been using third party trailers and he has got no trailers on his VOL. Does he still need to provide 1?
Thanks in advance.

If he hasn’t got one he cannot produce one they will recognize that to be fair to vehicle examiners they do help an operator

it should be on your operators if you have sent it back just remove it from operators they will see you have no trailers so you cannot produce one

I would guess he can't produce something that he doesn't have. Presumably his daily walk around records will identify the trailers that he has been pulling to demonstrate that he genuinely doesn't use any other trailers.

then you should have a first use inspection/RBT and periodic inspections/RBT followed by a record of off-hiring if appropriate.

Are the 3rd party trailers on long term hire? Is it just traction being provided? Either way should have records to show how the operation is run.

I’ve been told they have been doing only traction work.
