I passed my Class 1 this week, and now having the same problem as many others, can’t get a start with anyone without 6 months experience, has anyone worked for Slam Transport? I’ve got an assessment with them this week, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what they are like to work for this is the York depot. I’m in hull.

the firm I work for has gone quiet, we normally hire a couple of trailers and a unit and have an agency driver, the trailers and the unit went back last month, same with palletfiorce, normally this time of year we have 5 deckers and 1 or 2 normal trailers per night going down to the hub but last night there were only 3 went down

I’ll be honest, I passed my C1 in August, September I got a job with a small local company, might be worth looking in too, I’m on a fridge, it’s easy work and people stay away from you in the services

I was in the warehouse and mentioned daily to manager I had class1 and if any driver rang in sick not to ring agency.
3 months I lasted in the warehouse and ended up on the road

Take what work you can to start, once you have experience you can pick and choose so to speak

Ok, sadly the truth is, that a lot of companies won’t take drivers on without any experience, stupid I know, probably because of the insurance cost, the ones that will give you a go, are the companies that aren’t that good, they can’t keep their drivers because of bad working conditions or bad pay, unless you are very lucky and do find a really good company who will take a chance on you, I’m afraid you will have to do what most of the rest of us have done, just get some experience from any company that will take you on.

Bollox most drivers are on over 1k a week if you listen to them..
And thats 50hrs and no nights out...

If you can find a small agency, try this, it worked for me 32 yrs ago!
Ask the small agency to allow you to say you've worked for them, when you apply to another agency. Gain experience there, then go work for the first agency with the experience you've gained elsewhere.
