That pay is rubbish for a class 1, also how do you expect a newly qualified driver to get a job, for which they have gone through tests practical and theory wise that they have trained for. The going rate is around £35,000 upwards, without nights out and early starts.

They force overtime on you, try and get you to work 15 hour most days and have you finish early on the last day so they can take your overtime off you

it’s just the way it is up here! As much as it’s not good, it’s not quite as bad as it looks. Our cost of living is generally much cheaper up here than say Derbyshire, but even so, it’s still shyte money!
Basically the going rate that I know of north of the border, outside of the central belt, is generally £11 to £13 approximately. Obviously there are companies that pay more, but that’s the ball park that I’ve heard of.
A lot of the companies rely on bumping up the wages by offering bonuses, meal allowances etc.

pity there isn’t a driver shortage because if there was you would soon see that money going up to attract the men in . Those that kept it low would struggle

A lot of it depends on location and how many drivers are chasing one job vacancy. If you live in a mud hut, then it’s probably ok with the overtime and night out money.
If you live in London, then it won’t even pay the rent.

They claim that you only really work 3 days a week sometimes so they don't have to pay overtime. Because as the boss says "there not 8 days in a week"
