How to resign and remove your name as a Transport Manager from an Operator's Licence, HGV (haulage) or PSV (passenger)

Post by Admin »

Before resigning, you should talk to the operator and let them know that you'll be resigning soon. Once you resign, they will receive a letter like this telling them to get a new transport manager. They will usually get 2-3 weeks automatically to find a new TM. If they need another TM, give them my phone number: 07833 684449 and I'll source a new TM for them within a couple of days at these prices. If the operator no longer needs their operator's licence, advise them to surrender it but don't let it be revoked.

Sample resignation email:
Effective 01/01/2023, I have resigned as the transport manager on the licence of ABC Transport Ltd, operator's licence number OB12341234.

Always put the relevant licence number in the subject line of your email when you contact them about anything. You don't have to give them a reason for your resignation and they won't ask you that. You can simply inform them that you've resigned from ABC Transport Ltd, operator's licence number AB134567 and that's all. You can find licence numbers by your name or the company's name like this: viewtopic.php?t=6190

You can resign and remove your name as a transport manager from an Operator's Licence or application, HGV (haulage) or PSV (passenger), by one of the following 4 methods. They are equally good and effective, one is not better than the other. If your operator' application is still under consideration (including cases when they have only an interim licence), you can resign only using options 2 or 3 below. The process of removing a transport manager can be completed by either the operator or the transport manager himself, technically it doesn't matter who does it but if you are the transport manager you probably should do it yourself instead of relying on the operator because there have been cases where the operator wouldn't do it and the transport manager has remained on the licence for a long time without knowing it.

1. If you have access to the operator's Vehicle Operator Licensing account here, you can login, click on the licence number on the Home page, then click "Transport managers" and remove yourself in that section. This option can only work if you are already on their full licence but not interim or a pending application.

2. If you know the email address of the operator's caseworker at the Licensing Office from any previous correspondence, you can email them your resignation. Even if you send it to the caseworker, add this email address in CC just in case: [email protected] and to [email protected] if you are in Northern Ireland.

3. If you don't know the caseworker's email address, just email your resignation to: [email protected] and to [email protected] if you are in Northern Ireland.

4. If you were referred to the operator by TransportForum.com, Hirett Ltd or Dmitry Nade, you can call or text me on 07833 684449 (phone and WhatsApp) or email [email protected] and I may be able to remove you from the licence but it's better if you remove yourself using options 1-3 above.

If the operator has a full licence (not interim) and you already were listed on their licence, in a few days after your resignation, find your operator's licence page and check to make sure that your name has been removed from the "Transport managers" section of the operator's licence at this link: https://www.vehicle-operator-licensing. ... -operators. If you use option 1 above, your name will be removed immediately and you are no longer their transport manager.
